Heard “Christ is Risen” by Matt Maher this morning. GREAT song! It’s a good reminder that my God is not dead, that it’s because of His victory over death that I can CELEBRATE my recovery today.
Principle 2 of Celebrate Recovery’s Eight Recovery Principles reads, “Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover.”
He has the power to help me recover…
YES!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
Own that. Read it a hundred times if you have to. Then read it again a thousand times. Let it sink in. Let it become REAL. Let it become your REALITY.
You are not stuck, well, you don’t have to remain where you, doing the same ol’thing, with the same ol’people. When you allow God to invade your life He will CHANGE you. He kills the old. He cuts it from you. Jesus died on the cross to set you FREE, not enable you. Here’s the catch, you gotta allow your heart to change. God wants to shape and mold your heart to break for the things that break His, to desire what He desires, to become clean and pure…but only HE can do that.
On your own you’re going to stumble, trip, and fall. AND it’s going to happen again and again and again. Recovery is a daily struggle to give up my selfish desires and follow HIS perfect will. One day at a time. One moment at a time. One step at a time. Peace and joy reside somewhere between God’s perfect plan for my life and my willingness to turn over my life on a daily basis.
Work the 12 Steps. Live the 8 Principles. Believe God exists. Believe you matter to Him. Believe He has the power to help you recovery.
Believe.
