Who Do People Think You Are?

Who do people THINK you are? How do they PERCEIVE you? Do their ideas match up to the reality of your true character or do they know a mere illusion, a fantasy if you will?

Maybe it started as a child. Maybe there was an abusive relationship at home. Maybe you had a physically present, but emotionally absent parent. Maybe your family couldn’t afford the brand name clothes that all your friends were wearing. Maybe you grew up with a tick. Maybe you were different. Maybe you felt like an outcast. Maybe you just wanted to fit in…

And to do so, you had to make up story after story, mixing imagination and truth, blending lies with reality…ultimately having difficulty distinguishing between the two.

That’s how it started for me as child.
That’s how I fit in as a teen.
That's how I coped as a young adult.
That’s how I hid as a Christian, as a so-called follower of Christ.

Fearful of people knowing the REAL you, you PRETEND to be something or someone else. What would they think? How would they react? What would they say? How could they still be my friend?

You end up becoming to entangled in lies, so lost in the fantasy, that you lose sight of a way out. You struggled to backtrack far enough to locate the truth. How can I start over when I don’t even know where to begin? Let me tell you where to start: right here, right now, this moment.

If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice truth.
1 John 1:6 NKJV

No more lies.
No more hiding.
No more mask.
No more show.

It’s time to start practicing TRUTH. You don’t have to act one way around one person and another around someone else. You just got to be YOU! Be funny. Be sad. Be frustrated. Be REAL!

God doesn’t love the façade; he loves YOU! He sees right through the mask you’re wearing. He sees straight through to your heart. He sees the pain. He sees the fear. He sees the guilt, the shame, the sadness. He wants to take it FROM you and replace it with HOPE!

You’re experiencing an identity crisis and the solution, the answer to the problem, is Jesus.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 NKJV

This is the TRUTH that we gotta start living by. This is the TRUTH that we gotta start practicing. We need to acknowledge that Christ lives in us. We are not identified by the pain of our past, the mistakes that we’ve made, the hardships we’ve faced, the names we’ve been called…we are the SONS and DAUGHTERS of the God of the universe through our faith in Jesus.

Who do you want people to know? Who do you want people to see? Who are you?
