We’ve all got that ONE THING. That one thing that keeps us from reaching our potential. That one thing that holds us back from success, joy, happiness, rest, peace, relaxation…whatever it might be, we’ve all got that ONE THING.
What is your one thing?
What is it?
I would be willing to argue that for most us (me included) it is our unwillingness or inability to be OPEN and HONEST in our relationships. I’m talking about marriages, parenting, work, friends, you name it. I’m talking about ALL relationships. Some of us I would dare to say won’t even get honest with God. For whatever reason we have a tendency to retreat, to hide, to cower behind the veil of guilt and shame. It’s like we’re experiencing a heart attack and simply try to tough it out…“No, I’ll be just fine. I’ve got this.”
Really?
Why do we do this? Why are we so afraid to be REAL? Why are we so afraid to let people see the REAL us, the real YOU, the real ME? Did you know that when we choose to do this, when we choose to isolate and shut others out, that we are actually running away from the blessing God promises?
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James 5:16 NIV
I’m willing to bet that if you’re experiencing a heart attack you’re calling for help. I’m willing to bet that if you break your foot you’re going in for help. When we get sick, we want to get BETTER. When we get sick, we get HELP. Nobody wants to be sick. Everybody wants to be healed. It’s not that we WANT to be sick; we simply don’t want the diagnosis.
That’s called DENIAL.
“If I don’t acknowledge my sickness, then I’m not sick.”
Right.
Remember, you’re only as sick as your secrets. Will you stay sick or will you get help?
