Why Doesn't God Listen To Me?

When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.
Isaiah 1:15 NKJV

Ever feel as if your prayers go unanswered? You pray every morning. You pray every night. You cry out in desperation. You weep. You mourn. You anguish. And yet, nothing. No small voice. No gentle whisper. No sense of presence. Nothing. Abandoned. Alone.

Where do you turn? What do you do? Obviously you’ve done something wrong, right? Guilt grabs a hold of you, shame drags you down, fear and doubts cripple you. There IS nowhere to turn, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide because you CAN’T! You’re stuck.

You lift up your hands…and feel as if God’s hiding his eyes from you.
You make many prayers…and fear God’s not listening.

Sound familiar?

During those moments when I feel overwhelmed by __________ (insert your thing here)…depression, anxiety, lust, addiction, anger…whatever it might be, during those moments all these feelings, all these questions, all these doubts probably race through your brain in a matter of seconds. Your heart begins racing. Your blood pressure rises. You have difficulty breathing. You know you’re about to slip up in some way. Relapse is looming. You feel POWERLESS, but either don’t acknowledge it or forget where your strength comes from.

In mere moments your day, your life can be flipped upside down.

He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:18 NKJV

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:1 NKJV

No condemnation…in CHRIST! IN Christ! If you are reading this and at some point in your life confessed with your lips “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then YOU ARE NOT ALONE! God hasn’t turned his back on you. God hasn’t walked away from you. God hasn’t left you. He’s with you, beside you, around you, within you. Nothing can separate you from the love of God.

Instead of asking God, “Why haven’t you answered my prayers?” ask him, “What would you have me pray for?” His ways. His will. His timing. Are you praying for the “right” things (James 4:3)? He WANTS to bless you. He has something FOR you. Is there some sin in your life that you just can’t seem to let go? Is there a relationship to mend? Forgiveness to give? Don’t know? Ask him…

God, it seems like you no longer hear my prayers. I come to you day and night, night and day, and still I don’t hear from you. What is it? What’s wrong? Is there a sin in my life that I’m not seeing? Please show me. Show me what needs to change. Lead me. Guide me. Help me get better. God, I love you, I thank you. In Jesus’ name…amen!
