#1 I Am Not Responsible—ah crap! Just my luck! Right? Have you ever said that before? Like somehow the situation you’re in or facing just sorta happened. Like you had 0 responsibility for anything happening or taking place. Like no decision you made had any effect on your circumstance. Sure… keep telling yourself that. One of the BIGGEST problems with ‘luck’ is the tendency to ignore any and all personal responsibility for the situation or circumstance or result. Instead of owning up to your part, it’s easier to blame luck.
#2 God Is Not In Control—this has to be the BIGGEST problem with believing luck is ruling and running and controlling everything happening in the world today. It’s all by chance. It’s all just a series of random occurrences governed by ‘luck’ and ‘karma’ and whatever other excuse we’ve created for our problems. When we ‘look to the stars’ for answers or a ‘four-leaf clover’ for luck we discount and utterly diminish the existence of an all-powerful, all-knowing God. God is not engaged in a cosmic battle with luck over control of the universe. God is not bargaining over the outcome of circumstances and situations. God has a plan for each and every one of our lives and the only thing that messes that plan up is YOU (or ME if we’re talking about MY life), not luck.
Reflect:
- Who’s in control of your life? Luck or God?
- Who’s responsible for your current situation or circumstance? Luck or your bad decisions?
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how much or how little do you trust God?
- What can you do to grow that trust and move a little higher on the scale?
