Go To Your Room!

Last night at Celebrate Recovery I mentioned this idea of God sending us (you and I) to our rooms. He’s our FATHER. The words Father and parent are synonymous in my book… well, so long as the father is a REAL MAN and takes responsibility just sayin’.

So, back to this idea of being sent to my room.

When kids make bad decisions and do things and say things they shouldn’t, we as parents punish them. Everyone does it different. You might spank them or put them in time out or send them to their room or make them drink Kombucha (if you do this there’s something SERIOUSLY wrong with you). I believe God does the same thing, albeit metaphorically, maybe metaphysically. We made bad choices. We struggle. We do things and say things we shouldn’t.

As adults we hide it.
As adults we keep secrets.
As adults we tuck it away convincing ourselves it’s not that bad or we’ll take are of it later.
As adults we’re no different than kids.

So, we get sent to our “room” by our Father.

And just like most parents God gives us conditions, “You can come out of your room when…”

I would like to suggest that most of us are hanging out in our rooms because of our unwillingness to ADMIT we have a struggle. God knows we’re doing it. God knows it’s in our lives. God knows. We know. Chances are somebody else knows; yet we refuse to ADMIT it. God’s like, “You can come out of your room when you’re willing to admit you have a problem.”

And it’s once we get OUT OF the room we can experience the promises God has for our lives: HEALING, FREEDOM, and SUPPORT… 3 things I can’t live without. 3 things I don’t want to even remotely try to live without. All it takes is a willingness to put a voice to your struggle, to openly talk about your hurt, habit, or hang-up. You’re struggling, why hide it? Why get sent to your room?

Reflect:

  • What are you struggling with right now?
  • What are you trying desperately to keep a secret?
  • Are you tired of being stuck in your room?
  • Do you want to see God’s promises fulfilled in your life?
