Think about it.
Consider your work place. How many times have you wondered or questioned what someone else was being paid or compensated? Especially when you KNOW you work harder and work more hours. What about when so-and-so received that promotion that you KNOW you deserved? That’s not fair!
Remember that time you were driving and let someone into your lane and THEY got the green light and you had to stop for the red light? That’s not fair!
Oh, and let’s not forget the time you were at the family reunion and uncle so-and-so or cousin so-and-so got the last slice (or slices… especially if you live in America) of __________? I will punch you in the neck for some dessert. No shame in my game. That’s not fair!
Or (and this one goes out to you church people) remember that time when so-and-so was assigned to sing YOUR song at church? That’s MY song! I’VE always sung that song! That’s not fair!
Can I just say… SHUT UP!
I don’t want fairness. Can you imagine if GOD was fair? If God was fair we’d all be going to hell with no hope of EVER seeing even a glimpse of heaven. We rebelled. We ate the fruit. We need to be punished. Hell is that punishment. Oh crap, this sucks, but oh well… it’s only fair.
God is not fair, but at least He’s an equal opportunity kinda God.
God puts people right through their faith in Jesus Christ. God does this to all who believe in Christ, because there is no difference at all: everyone has sinned and is far away from God's saving presence.
Romans 3:22-23 GNT
God doesn't care who you ARE or what you’ve DONE. To Him, there’s no difference at all. We’re ALL in the same boat. We’re ALL bad. We’re ALL far away from His saving presence. We ALL need Jesus. That’s not fair!
It’s ok. He doesn’t have to be fair. He’s God. We WALKED AWAY from Him and He’s been working to BRING US BACK ever since. It's not a matter of FAIRNESS; it’s a matter of CHOICE. If God was fair there’d be no choice because we already made our decision a long time ago.
Reflect:
- When was the last time you wanted to say, “That’s not fair!”
- Would you exchange HOPE for FAIRNESS?
- God looks at everyone the same, do you?
- Have you been made "right through [your] faith in Jesus Christ"?
