When Something Else Seems Better

Something is going to grab your attention. You’re going to see a faint glimmer or sparkle or shine and your eyes are going to immediately fix on it. It’s going to look like the BEST THING EVER from a distance. In fact, it’s going to look so good you’re going to actually leave everything you have NOW to get it.

Your wife.
Your husband.
Your kids.
Your job.
Your everything.

Gone. And why? You’re not satisfied with what you HAVE. You only focus on the things you DON’T have. You feel cheated. You think you’ve been slighted. You didn’t ask for this. How’d you get in this situation anyway?

It wasn’t your idea to get married (you accidentally said, “I do.”).
You didn’t want a kid (you just wanted to all the fun leading up to one).
You’re stuck in a job you don’t even want (you’re just too lazy to work for something better).
Your life isn’t what you dreamt it would be (you stopped dreaming a long time ago).

When you allow yourself to get into situations like this, when you allow yourself to constantly be looking ELSEWHERE for fulfillment and satisfaction, you completely miss out on everything you actually DO HAVE. It’s called being UNGRATEFUL. Call it what it is. Blame whoever you want. Screw responsibility. Who wants that? You think the grass is greener on the other side, but you quit mowing your lawn a long time ago. You think the grass is greener on the other side, but you haven’t watered your lawn in ages.

Stop complaining.
Stop fussing.
Stop, just stop.

Start working on the things you HAVE before you end up losing EVERYTHING. And then the things you have won’t seem so bad anymore (problem is, they’ll be gone).
