Doing Just Enough Isn't Good Enough

3 months ago I watch Chris Weidman knock out Anderson Silva. It was the first time Silva lost inside the Octagon, the first time he’d lost in the UFC, the first time he’d lost in 7 years—it was sort of a big deal. Chris Weidman went into the fight as the challenger, the underdog, and he left no question that he deserved to be champ because he EARNED it. Last night was different.

I watched Johny Hendricks light up Georges St. Pierre (GSP) for 5 rounds, that’s 25 minutes. At the end of the fight GSP looked like a hot mess. His face was red, bruised, welted, cut. Hendricks, on the other hand, looked like he did at the start of the fight. He looked fresh, untouched. Yet, Hendricks allowed the fight to go to the judges. He couldn’t finish GSP. He wasn’t able to land that knockout punch or tangle him up in a submission.

Weidman walked away the champ.
Hendricks walked away as another challenger.

Never let it go to the judges.

Don’t give’em reason to doubt.
Don’t let’em decide your fate.
Don’t stop.
Don’t give up.
Don’t settle for anything less than the win.

Never let it go to the judges.
