Sin Looks So Good

3Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!” 5Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood.” 7And they consulted together and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in. 8Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced, 10and gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”
Matthew 27:3-10 NKJV

Here’s what makes sin so dangerous. When you’re stuck in the middle of it, like you’ve got the food on your spoon, the needle in your arm, the credit card in hand, someone else in your bed, your fist nearing a child’s face, __________ (whatever your thing is), when you’re stuck in the middle of it you’re not looking AHEAD to see the RESULTS.

Judas wanted 30 pieces of silver. He had a thing for money (which most, if not ALL of us do). He was thinking about what he could do with 30 pieces of silver. He was thinking about what he could buy with 30 pieces of silver. He was thinking about everything EXCEPT Jesus condemned to die. When faced with that reality no amount of money could satisfy the pain and regret.

Don’t get so far IN IT that you can’t get OUT OF IT. Realize Jesus is GREATER than whatever secret sin you’re still chasing after and break free from the hold it has on your life.

Jesus > everything
