The Science Fair Project
My oldest son, Jonah, is currently working on his Science Fair project. It’s EXCITING! I’m PROUD of him! As a child, the only thing I was invited to was the principal’s office (no kidding). Well, imagine having to complete this project over WINTER BREAK. It can’t be easy.
You’ve got all these NEW toys and gadgets and games. You’ve got all the excitement of friends playing outside and you want to play with their new stuff and they want to play with your new stuff. How in the world are you supposed to find time for the project? How can you concentrate on schoolwork when there’s so much fun to be had? Easy.
Ask mom and dad to do it.
I think there’s a correlation between Jonah and his Science Fair project and us (you and I) and ministry. We allow ourselves to get so wrapped up in the busyness of life, so caught up in the hustle of marriage, parenting, working, and everything else that we forget about God… not because we DON’T want to be around him, we just CAN’T find the time to squeeze him in. So, what do we do?
We pray and ask him to do it.
We pray and ask him to make it happen.
We pray and ask him to find someone else.
That is, if we can even find the time to pray (maybe we can have someone else do that too?).
I imagine God doing exactly what Tracey and I have done with Jonah and that is OFFER HELP. We’re not doing Jonah’s project FOR him, but we’re right there alongside of him helping him work through it. If he’s got a question, we help him find an answer. If he gets stuck, we try to help him out of it.
God is offering you the same. He’s right there beside you, offering to help you through whatever it is you’re going through. He’s called you to change the world, not find someone else to do it. Will you give up, walk away, and settle for busyness or will you set aside what needs to be set aside and answer the call he’s place on your life?
