What Are You Willing To Do For Someone Else?

Everything comes with a COST. Good or bad, EVERYTHING has a cost. I was recently reminded of this when my daughter was invited to participate in Math Field Day (smart math kids competing against other schools in math stuff). That’s a GOOD thing! We celebrated. We cheered. We encouraged. Then 6:00am rolled around and it was time to wake up.

Math Field Day came with a cost—less sleep. Three days out of the week my daughter now wakes up at 6:00am so she can get to school a little bit earlier for practice. Practice doesn’t take place during NORMAL school hours; she has to WORK at it and arrive EARLY. She has to GO OUT OF HER WAY to participate. I’m grateful she’s learning this lesson at an early age. And because SHE has to arrive early, that means I have to arrive early.

The things we do and the things we say and the decisions we make and the decision we don’t make don’t just affect us, they affect everyone AROUND us. My daughter’s participation in Math Field Day means dad now has to leave earlier than normal. My daughter’s participation in Math Field Day means dad’s routine (that he’s had for a few years now) has to change. There’s a COST.

What price are you willing to pay so someone else can enjoy a good thing? What are you willing to give up for somebody else to get a little further in life? What sacrifice are you willing to make?
