Searching for the "Life" Button on the Microwave

I have a great appreciation for the microwave. I can eat popcorn in 2.5 minutes. I can drink hot tea in 3 minutes. I can eat a potpie in 8 minutes. It’s simplified the process of preparing food and drastically cut down the amount of time and effort I have to put into it. Needless to say, I have a great appreciation for CONVENIENCE.

This appreciation sometimes spills over into my faith. I want an immediate dose of hope. I want to be inspired right now. I don’t want to search for it. I don’t want to wait for it. I want to Google HOPE and read the first verse that pops up and call it my quiet time. After all, I DID LOOK for it.

This appreciation also spills over into my recovery. I don’t want to work the 12 Steps. I mean COME ON why are there 12! Who has time for that! I want to skip ahead a few (if not all the way to the end). I don't want to take life one step at a time. I got things to do. I don’t want accountability. I don’t want to attend meetings. I just want to be BETTER. Isn’t that enough?

Life is full of little conveniences, but sometimes the things we want MOST are the things we gotta work HARDEST for. Stop trying to microwave your life. Stop looking for shortcuts. Stop searching for a way out and start working toward the life you’ve always wanted and God always intended for you to live.
