Valentine’s Day.
Flowers.
Cards.
Chocolates.
Jewelery.
More flowers.
Probably more jewelery.
Dinner.
Did I miss anything? Valentine’s Day is one of those
holidays or special days or whatever kinda day you call it, that I simply don’t
understand. To me it doesn’t make sense. Why do we set aside a SPECIAL DAY to
treat a special someone like we should be treating them EVERY DAY? Why do we
wait until February 14th to write someone a card or buy flowers or
take’em out to eat? Why do we wait? Do we really
need a special day for it? What about the other 364 days? Interestingly, I find
a parallel between Valentine’s Day and Christianity.
We set aside 52 days out of the year (if we’re not on
vacation or something better doesn’t come up) for our “faith.” We GO to church,
we DO church, but we neglect the fact that we ARE the church. Church isn’t a
building. Church isn’t confined to Sundays. Church isn’t Christianity. We do
what we want Monday – Saturday, but show up on Sunday with a nice, big smile on
our faces and pretend everything is okay. What happened to prayer? What
happened to reading our Bible? What happened to following Jesus?
If go away with anything from today’s blog post let it be
this…
Don’t wait for special
days to do the things you should be doing every
day.
