It’s great to get away.
Relax.
Sleep.
Disconnect.
Get alone.
I couldn't agree more. I LOVE vacation or holiday or whatever you want to call it. I enjoy doing nothing. I really do.
Unfortunately, what CAN and DOES happen when we go on these trips is we get so wrapped up in the excitement of “taking a break” physically, mentally, and emotionally, we toss in a spiritual break as well.
We get a chance to sleep in.
We get busy sightseeing.
We hang on the beach all day.
We go out to eat.
We exchange one type of busyness for another more ENJOYABLE one. And in the process we forget WHO got us there, WHO to thank… WHO?
It’s summer. Chances are you have plans to go SOMEWHERE. When you get there don’t neglect your quiet time with God. He’s the God of your vacation as well as your busy life. Pray. Read. Get in His face. Get in His word.
Thank Him for providing you with some time away.
Reflect:
- What is it about vacation that makes connecting with God seem so difficult?
- Do you have an upcoming vacation planned? Is God listed anywhere in the itinerary?
- What can you do to ensure you don’t take a break from your relationship with God?
